Grow your podcast with an email newsletter (templates that work)

Subject lines, one clear CTA, embed or link strategy, and segmentation for superfans vs casual listeners.

If you are new: Start a simple list (even a Google Form collecting emails) on day one. You only need a handful of true fans to justify sending “new episode” mail.

Do this first

  • Add a signup link to your show notes and social bio.
  • Send a plain, short email when each episode drops: subject = episode title, body = one paragraph + listen link.
  • Do not buy lists; invite real listeners only.

Email is owned reach—not rented from an algorithm. Use it to train listeners when new episodes drop and to sell deeper offers (courses, events).

Subject lines

Specific beats clever: “Ep 42: Pricing page teardown (6 min)” beats “New episode out now!” Test patterns over months, not one-off hacks.

One CTA

Primary button: listen on the web player or Apple. Secondary links can sit as text. Too many competing buttons reduce clicks.

Segmentation

Tag clickers vs non-openers; send superfans bonus clips. Respect GDPR: clear consent, easy unsubscribe, honest signup sources.

Embed vs link

Some clients strip embeds; a hero image linking to your episode page is reliable. Provide text summary for people reading on subway lines with no headphones.
